Ioannis Zempekakis

Ioannis, Director of AI at Prosus, is passionate about leveraging AI to solve complex problems and leads the development of the first Gen-AI team member.  In 2021, Ioannis, in collaboration with Serena Westra, published the paper "AI-by-Design”. They combine AI/ML with Design Thinking to create a 6-step approach for human-centric AI Innovation.

He has a rich academic background with over 12 years of experience in data science and holds degrees from AuTh, Essex, and Tilburg University. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found a start-up focusing on predictive maintenance and work with several companies, including Boskalis, Glencore, and Shell. He actively contributes to the Open-Ethics for AI think tank, which won the 2021 SDG Award within the EU. Outside of his professional life, Ioannis enjoys family time, CrossFit, and music.
