As the big AIs continue to evolve, humans form relationships with machines. This concept known as CASA (Computers As Social Actors) is not new. But similar to the LLM being a shortcut for understanding or intelligence, - technology has now found a shortcut to rapidly increase the speed and depth of these human machine-relationships: AIs that mirror their conversation partner, tapping into our deepest narcissistic tendencies and validating our deepest inner self.
Should this digital sycophantry become the new normal? And how should companies design virtual personalities that continue to respect humans and human flaws while representing the brand and getting the job done?
In this talk, we'll discuss computers as social actors, and our own human weaknesses when interacting with things that behave like us, why that is so addictive, and also so dangerous. And we'll define a framework for doing the right thing when it comes to designing conversational interfaces that represent a brand well.
